Newborn baby fug review – iBaby feed
Not me
No, I’m not actually writing a review of my new baby. Although if I was, it would be quite glowing at this point. Apart from her propensity to cause scream-out-loud-pain to my left nipple. (Sorry, that noise you heard? That was the sound of our twenty male readers rushing out the door – yes, you may run, but you can’t hide from the screams you can probably hear from West London).
So I’m pretty much head over nappy in the 10 day old new-born fug. Forgive me please if I cannot wax lyrical this week on the situation in Syria as I might usually do on these hallowed pink pages. And I fear my cutting edge wit has deserted me a little in a haze of washing little white bodysuits, sleeping bolt upright with iPhone in hand, lying on the couch eating reverse double choc chip cookies (how I loathe you so, your sweet sweet reverse white choc chip evilness) oh, and managing aforementioned nipple pain (keep on walkin’ guys).

So I have to admit that I spend more time than is healthy surfing. No, not the cool, wind in your hair, look at me I’m in Puberty Blues type surfing, but more the I’m a nerd who spends too much time on the couch at night looking at the laptop when I could be catching up with world events type surfing. I justify this in by insisting that it’s my job. Well, if you called being co-editor of a blog that makes no money but is personally fulfilling a job. Which to be honest, I’m not sure that anyone actually does. But they probably should, it would make a lot of people feel much happier about the use of their spare time.

What is Twitter? Helping you keep up with the cool kids.
OK, I can’t tell you the number of people in the past few months who have asked me about Twitter (mostly my mother). Or told me what nonsense it is (mostly people who have never used/seen it before). Or told me I am too old to be using it (thank YOU little brother). Plus, you would need to have been hiding under the proverbial stone to not have read one of the million and two articles about this new social networking phenomenon. There are many people who think this is just another flybenight new fangled technie thing. Sorry, but I’m here to tell you that you need to get with it kids (you can thank me later). And here are the top reasons why:
- Like Facebook before it (hello, 500 millionth user), Twitter seems to be one of these ones that is going to hang around. So unless you are over 70, feel like retiring into the dark ages (yes, before Lady GaGa existed), or are completely intent on making some sort of anti-social networking point – you should at least know what it’s all about. THEN you can poo-poo it to your heart’s content. Just not to me. I will thrash you in an argument about it. I’m just saying.

43 New Year’s Resolutions. Well, 8. But they are going well.
NAILing it - get it?? I know, my pictures are getting more obscure.
So it’s February. Almost the end of February really. So when am I going to start my new year’s resolutions?
Actually, I’m being slightly disingenuous here as I have a confession to make. I am NAILING my resolutions. Nailing them I tell you. Usually February finds me glass of wine in one hand, chocolate bar in the other with the same five kilos hovering somewhere around my middle discussing the 10km run I almost signed up for and the career change that is juuuuuust around the corner.

Hold on to your hats iphone fans, I may have found the most useful iphone application ever. Well, let’s not forget about Total Baby, which is still going strong for me, but let’s just say I’m at least as excited as I was when I discovered that trusty application. My latest discovery is the BabyPhone iphone app, which, in the briefest of explanations, let’s you monitor your baby with your iphone – calling or emailing another designated phone number (or email) when it senses your baby crying or moving. It works; I’ve already tested it on the Christmas, New Year party circuit. Quite simply, it’s genius.

No more popping in and out of the party/dining room every five seconds to see if your precious one is still sleeping peacefully in the room where you’ve left him or her, as opposed to the hysterical crying you’re constantly imagining could be going on unnoticed and unattended. No more pretending to listen to conversations and appear relaxed when you’re actually wound up like a rubber band trying to separate the sounds of voices from what could possibly be a cry from the distant room. No more ducking in and out of the party to plaster your ear against the door or opening the door only to find the baby was sleeping… until you opened the door.

What is Etsy? Helping you keep up with the cool kids.
If you get any cool blog alerts sent to you, or tend to trawl the web a bit (in a very non geek-I-have-a-life manner), you will no doubt have come across references to ‘Etsy’. And if you are genuinely cool and don’t surf, you should still pay attention because Etsy is actually really good. Not in a facebook/twitter/2.0 kind of way – in an oh my goodness, some of these things are beautiful, I must buy something immediately kind of way.
So Etsy is like a massive online shop, where people who make things can sell their wares. But we are not talking all painted light globes and pet rocks here (although I am sure they are there somewhere), there are actually high quality, beautiful and individual pieces of jewellery, craft, art and clothing, alongside vintage gear. According to Wikipedia (and what quality journalist wouldn’t quote Wikipedia?) it has been compared to “a crafty cross between Amazon and eBay”. Don’t get me wrong – there is some utter sh*te , but there are also some fab pieces.
So – in order to sound truly hip and with it, feel free to drop the following conversational gems into dinner party chit-chat:

The Total Baby iphone application
With The Spaniard (my husband) already well known amongst friends as a huge Mac fan and general tech geek, when he bought me an iphone and installed an application for recording everything about the baby, friends and family declared that we were going to have an iBaby, with its life run through one mac tool or another. It’s true that iweb, iphoto, itunes and the iphone feature prominently in his life, but even those who are only mac’ed up as far as an iphone, I think will find this application very useful and practical. It makes life easier, and that, after all, is what technology is supposed to be all about.
The application we’re using is Total Baby by Andesigned. There are other similar applications and probably some are just as good but this is the first we tried and as we liked it, we’ve stuck with it.
