Another Genius Gift Idea
As hard as they are to come by I’m not one to keep a good find to myself, so I’ll let you in on my latest stroke of genius, made possible by Flying Start Toys on Etsy, some serious Etsy search-and-discover skills on my part in finding this little gem and a flash of creativity, again on my part, although, admittedly, as someone who is not actually very creative on a whole, this self-perceived creativeness may not seem quite as grand to the outside world. But I can assure you the outcome is good. And… you may copy.
I came across Flying Start Toys’ Sail Away boats – made from materials with beautiful patterns and in the following lovely combinations shown below – while searching for a mobile for a baby’s new nursery as a gift (in an effort to find an alternative to the OTT sound and light shows one finds in commercial baby stores). I never found a mobile I liked, but was delighted to stumble across these.
The gift was for my little sister’s recently born first child. When I say recently, I mean about 6 months ago which is how long it took me to organise a present. So I asked Flying Start Toys if they could possibly put each letter of my sister’s bub’s name on five boats. (That’s the bit that was the highly creative idea from me, in case you missed it). They were already unique, now they’re customised. Impressive? I think so:
I hit it big with the sibling brownie points, receiving gushing emails and phone calls and exclamations that the gift was too beautiful to hide away in the baby’s room. Also up for praise was the stunning wrapping in which the gift arrived:
Incidentally, it was Florence from Flying Start Toys that took these photos and sent them to me so that I could see the finished product before she shipped them off to the lucky baby – SUCH good service and a great buying experience overall.
If you are going to copy this genius idea – and I don’t doubt you’re itching to – you might need to keep it for babies of shorter names. The boats are reasonably priced at 29.95 USD and an additional cost for customisation, but obviously the longer the name the more expensive it gets. Tithandianisi, for example, could really add up. Or you could just stick to the original boats, which are divine as they are and would look great any nursery in any number.
