Talking about ‘IT’

talking-about-it

I find that talking about your pregnancy can have some awkward moments in general.  Given the very close alignment of the duration of my pregnancy and the time passed since my wedding, I often find myself feeling the need to talk about when The Spaniard and I actually starting trying to get pregnant. I don’t like to talk about the “trying” all that much because, let´s face it, it´s basically a nice way of talking about us having sex but with the added detail of it being without contraceptive. It´s not your typical light conversation.  When I see that that look of concentration that I rapidly conclude is people mentally crunching the numbers to see if we actually fall in to the “shotgun wedding” category, I have a tendency to launch in to defending myself. I find myself going in to the detail of The Trying not starting until after the wedding or that there is a very good chance that it may have been The Trying on the actual wedding night that resulted in the outcome we have before us today.  Confirming that there was Trying on the actual wedding night is particularly weird. It´s getting waaayyy to specific. It only ever occurs to me afterwards that defending my honour isn’t really important enough to put people through this excessive information sharing. Possibly it’s not the level of information they were after. I must try and let go of my need for accuracy and spare people the mental image of my husband and I having sex. Unless you´re Brangelina no one really wants that image in their head.
